      thanks Amber & happy new year! yes, same tree and same photographer. And I'll have to say that I'm doing better than the tree is. They are finally beginning construction on the Katrina remediation project, adding two floors to the library, and the heavy machinery harms (kills) all those once-beautiful oaks. I now actually work in the library's Special Collections, located in Jones Hall, which you can see through the blinds in the top photo. One day the campus will be calm and peaceful again, but it won't be any time soon. Love, susanna

    Wow! When I first started at the University of Washington in 1990 we had a card catalog much like this. Huge! The next year, 1991, it was gone. Yesterday I saw a picture on FB of the first library without a single book. All e-books. Time marches on. I like how the 1980's picture is in black and white. Funny, I vividly remember the bright colors of the 1980's:)

      dear Julian, this shows, if nothing else, I've always been snapping away, this was actually black and white film. of course, these days I almost always want the most colorful possible. I wonder what will happen with libraries in the future, maybe about 30 or 40 years from now, all books will be rare books. love, susanna
