  1. Oooooh, these take my breath away. How did you find them before I did? I'm serious. They are beautiful to me.

  2. That really is very artistic. I like the picture of the green one by itself. It has a lot of texture.

  3. Good morning!
Glenn, I think they are just more in my uptown stomping grounds... the true story is that I was in the middle of the wide neutral ground in Claiborne, near Nashville, trying to take a photograph of the rainbow Monday evening before last. It turns out the ground was more photogenic than the sky. These remind me of cave paintings.
Bowlofchicken, Thanks very much, I think the credit goes to the engineers.
Rick, I'm glad you liked this. I love to notice stuff written in human handwriting on sidewalks, bridges, etc., like in this photograph from last year. It looks wonderful to me. I also like the stencilled numbers on the bridges, they make me want to play the lottery. sp

  4. Oh, for a moment I thought I was looking at one more typical post of this blog! Very interesting. I wonder what the meaning of the arrows is.

  5. Hi Psephis! I'm sure the arrows and the colors have significance, but I certainly can't guess what! We are in a 10-year (starting maybe 2006?) post-Katrina upgrade of the natural gas lines within the city. Uncharacteristically, our house in Gentilly was in an area that was worked on first. We didn't even have a post office rebuilt/reopened for our zip code until early 2009. But this is from uptown, where the population is dense around universities and schools, desperately in need up upgrades of many kinds! nice to hear from you! sp

  6. I like this idea that you were trying to take a photo of the colors of the rainbow but found more interesting colors in the ground. Life is just like this, full of surprises!

  7. Dear Claudia, The other surprise is that the rainbow showed itself to be full, rich and glorious when I was going home afterwards, farther down the road at a complicated traffic light. It was just the perfect angle, we don't have north and south so much, and it was a 5-way intersection. The arc went past 180 degrees, very rounded, I've never seen anything like that before. I love to hear from you! sp

  8. The "sky art" that day was meant to be something to be captured only by your internal hardware. This is great too, keeps the magic untouched by machines!

  9. Yes, this magic did seem purposeful!
